چکیده
We study the worst case complexity of regular operations on cofinite languages (i.e., languages whose complement is finite) and provide algorithms to compute efficiently the resulting minimal automata.

Syntactic Complexity of Finite/Cofinite, Definite, and Reverse Definite Languages
We study the syntactic complexity of finite/cofinite, definite and reverse definite languages. The syntactic complexity of a class of languages is defined as the maximal size of syntactic semigroups of languages from the class, taken as a function of the state complexity n of the languages. We prove that (n − 1)! is a tight upper bound for finite/cofinite languages and that it can be reached on...
متن کاملSyntactic Complexities of Six Classes of Star-Free Languages
The syntactic complexity of a regular language is the cardinality of its syntactic semigroup. The syntactic complexity of a subclass of regular languages is the maximal syntactic complexity of languages in that subclass, taken as a function of the state complexity n of these languages. We study the syntactic complexity of six subclasses of star-free languages. We find a tight upper bound of (n−...
متن کاملThe Impact of Mediational Artifact Types on EFL Learners’ Writing Complexity: Collaboration vs. Asynchronous Artifacts
The present study was an attempt to investigate the significance of environmental changes on the develo p- ment of writing in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context with respect to the individual. This study also compared the impacts of collaboration and asynchronous computer mediation (ACM) on the writing complexity of EFL learners. To this end, three intact writing classes were designate...
متن کاملTask Complexity Manipulation and Accuracy in Writing Performance
This study aimed to investigate the impact of task sequencing, along +/- reasoning demands dimension, on writing task performance in terms of accuracy. The study was motivated by Robinson’s Cognition Hypothesis (CH) as well as previous studies investigating the relationships between task complexity and second language production. The participants of the study were 90 intermediate students at t...
متن کاملLNgen: Tool Support for Locally Nameless Representations MS-CIS-10-24
Given the complexity of the metatheoretic reasoning about current programming languages and their type systems, techniques for mechanical formalization and checking of such metatheory have received much recent attention. In previous work, we advocated a combination of locally nameless representation and cofinite quantification as a lightweight style for carrying out such formalizations in the C...
